.....Half
a block up Light Street on the left hand side stands the building
that housed another of Baltimore's most revered landmark's,
the McHenry Theatre. This picture is circa 1919.
The
McHenry long ago ceased to function as a movie palace, but
in its day it was considered one of the Grande Dames of America's
ornate movie houses. A South American Restaurant now
occupies the space that served as the McHenry's beautiful
lobby. The theatre itself is currently being renovated by
a local club owner for use as office space.
Take
a look at this photo of Light Street, which shows the view
at the turn of the Century (1908) facing from north to south.
You can just about make out the McHenry in the distance. It
is the second tall building on the right hand side. The original
Cross Street Market lies just beyond the theater on the right.
